Two
Where two or more are gathered…
It can be many. For this post, I'll use two.
You and a friend. You and a partner. You and a stranger you'll never see again.
Where two or more are gathered, there is the opportunity for Unity.
Opportunity is the key word. Gathering alone is only a representation of proximity. It does not recognize the opportunity. Unity is what happens when those gathered actually meet in an understanding of Unity.
Nothing Exists By Itself
Think of it this way: nothing exists by itself. You only exist because of another in existence. Love exists because of all existence. But “nothing” does not exist. Nothing is non-existence.
Relations exist between all things. Every string is connected to another string. Every domino lined up to fall is connected to another domino.
Unity is the recognition of these points. Unity isn't something that someone can manufacture. The strings of connection have already been tied. If there is something to be done, it is to remember unity or you forget it. This is why recognizing the opportunity to remember is your challenge. The connection is already there, and most times, you miss it or you just forget it.
The First Two - You
Start by looking into a mirror. You are already two: a body and an eternal essence.
The body is what walks into a room. The essence is what's actually available to meet someone, if you are aware. Hopefully the body and the essence arrive together. Often they don't.
The body usually sits at the table while the mind is rehearsing a reply, defending a position, or performing. The essence is what is waiting somewhere behind it all.
Unity isn't a guaranteed experience. It's practiced through recognition.
Unity with another requires authenticity, and you can't be authentic while managing, measuring, or performing.
Two people who are each divided inside can gather all day and never actually meet.
The Second Two - You And Another
When your body and your essence arrive together, an opportunity presents itself.
Authenticity - The reflection of who you actually are, not who you think the moment calls for.
Love - Love is the binding force. Without it, you only have two people sharing a room. With it, you have the beginning of unity. But the willingness to be unconditionally loving is required.
The recognition that levels of understanding will differ - Understanding that the lens you wear, how you interpret circumstance and reality, is not the lens the other person wears. You can sit through the same conversation and leave having had two different conversations. And neither of you would be lying. Unity doesn't ask that you see through the same eyes. Unity asks you to love across the gap of difference with another without needing to rule the gap.
Think of a moment you sat across from someone you love and caught yourself already strategizing your reply before they finished speaking. The moment you noticed the effort and let it go was recognition, opportunity. That was recognizing the gap and choosing love.
When Unity is recognized, there is the possibility that two can move as one. The two will not be identical, but they will be cohesive. They will be held by a recognition of a common string. What can follow is peace and presence. Then there is the possibility of more: the love between two in Unity multiplies. It goes out through both of you and into the world.
The Third Two - You and Divinity
Widen your lens once more. Follow the string and you will find you and Divinity. You as the expression of it, and it as the source of the expression.
It's the same pattern: Body and essence, you and another, expression and source. At each level the question is the same: are we moving as one?
Follow the string far enough and you stop finding two.
